Penny Lane

In Penny Lane there is a sign of autographs
Of recent people who’s had the pleasure to have been
And somebody even left a picture of them self
it wasn’t all a dream…

Down some steps to the Cavern in Matthew Street
tourists go and visit, drink a beer
watch a live band play, an old one filmed
joy the atmosphere …

On the Town Hall steps Sergeant Pepper’s Band
has holes forĀ  people to peep through.
There are children and the old men too, who take a turn
in the pouring rain, not all is new.

Port Sunlight

Near Birkenhead, model factory housing built round the Lever Brothers factory, and called Port Sunlight. We saw Bowls’ greens in front of social clubs, and many buildings that can hardly have changed since they were built in the 1890s. The factory is still there, but I don’t know how many of the factory workers could now afford the model housing.
